Chain Maille Defined
The hallmark of true chain maille means rings are individually opened and closed to create the final work. The handcrafting process also involves lengths of metal wire coiled onto a mandrel and carefully cut with a jeweler's saw. This creates a smooth opening called the ‘kerf’, which will cleanly slide back and forth when the ring is opened and closed.

As the chain gets longer, the form of the bracelet and how it will drape becomes more apparent.
